YAC — Young and Caring
Our young carers project is developing nicely with many young carers being referred to us. We had a successful party at the Tim Parry & Jonathan Ball Peace Foundation. There are so many young carers in our community who need the support that the Carers Centre can offer. If you have a young carer living with you who you think will benefit from the project, then please let us know.
Maxima Project
Maxima Project is funded by Warrington Borough Council and aims to provide care and support to older people when they are first experiencing difficulties in their daily lives. This is people over the age of 65 years who are experiencing difficulties, who are not eligible for Social Services. Services available are bathing, cleaning, daily living equipment, garden tidy and handyperson. Costings vary from £3.00 per session. To apply call the Service Reception team on 01925 444239.
Fundraising/Donations
As we are a charity, this is the one thing that keeps us afloat. All the monies you/we raise go straight into supporting carers — all carers, whether they can come into the centre, go on the outings or not. We buy literature, we subsidise events and outings — without it we could not do the things we do, so a big thank you to everyone, carers and outside bodies. A special thank you to the following: Barclays Bank Warrington £1250, Woolston Ladies Group £30, our Social Evening £211, calendar sales £14 and carers donations £47. It is all very much appreciated. We are now well on our way to raising our 2007 target of £5000 for the Carers Centre. |

Thought or two
What lies behind us
and what lies before us
are tiny matters compared to
what lies within us

Government's New Deal for carers
The Minister for Care Services, Ivan Lewis, has unveiled a multimillion pound package of support for carers. A range of measures has been designed to recognise the essential work that carers carry out across the country. The money below will be shared across the country.
- £25 million to be spent on providing short-term home-based respite care for carers in crisis or emergency situations in every council
- £3 million towards the establishment of a national helpline for carers
- £5 million to support the development of an expert carers programme
The Chancellor of the Exchequer, Gordon Brown, said, "Everyone of the carers I have met is an inspiration and refutes a wide cynicism that in today's society selfishness matters more than service to others. And having listened to their stories and the challenges they face, I know we must and will do more in the years to come to help." |
